Gen X employees are losing interest in the tech workplace culture
- syndicatedjelly 3y agoA lot of these “difference between generation” articles seem to ignore that people in different age groups have different priorities. Older people tend to have a family to think about and are established in their career, so they’re less likely to need a career to tell them what they’re values are. That said, I personally find it depressing to let a job tell you who you are and what you should care about. Everyone ought to go through the self-discovery of figuring that out for themselves
- karmakaze 3y agoEven the way questions are phrased sound like "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Not surprising that X'ers don't play along.
- Pearse 3y agoSorry if this is not contributing to the conversation, but I really appreciate your comment. It's a very polite way to dismiss what I would say is a slightly rage bait title and write up. And I couldn't agree more with the sentiment of self discovery.
- JohnFen 3y agoI'm a gen-xer and my career has never informed my values. Just the other way around -- my values have informed my career. I did find this study interesting, because it helped me to understand the younger generations better.

- GoToRO 3y agoThe culture is "we will fire you even if we don't have to, so we can make record profits". Or slurs like "laptop class". Hard to be excited about that.
