ReiserFS Officially Declared Obsolete
- weare138 3y agoI'm surprised it lasted this long or at the very least changed the name by now.
- fatfingerd 3y agoI think letting it rot on features was pretty much the easiest course to eventually remove it without anyone accidentally ending up in the middle of a Streisand effect while defending a renaming. I really liked ReiserFS way back when but there are plenty of other FSes to choose from or choose to improve so there's little reason to deal with that baggage.
- hulitu 3y ago> ReiserFS Officially Declared Obsolete It was, at one time, the fastest linux filesystem.
- donatj 3y agoIn the early 2000s I was so excited about Reiser4.
- wesleyd 3y agoIt was such a great filesystem at the time. There is somewhere out there a synopsis of linux filesystems from quite a while ago that describes reiserfs as no longer being actively developed as its creator is "pursuing other interests".

- keep_reading 3y agoReiser5 exists, it was announced a couple years ago. It's not dead, his partner Edward has been continuing filesystem research at IBM https://www.phoronix.com/news/Reiser5-April-2022 https://www.phoronix.com/news/Reiser5-April-2022
- mmh0000 3y agoThe only filesystem to truly murder your data!
- nikau 3y agoI recall someone added a 'murderers your wife' column on the Wikipedia filesystem comparison table at one stage.
- sillywalk 3y agoWas there anything special about ReiserFS specifically vs other filesystems? I recall it had issues dealing with ReiserFS filesystem images.
