Tiny countries are getting rich off their domains
- NoZebra120vClip 3y agoUnfortunately, this is a real gold-rush type situation, and I think that parties on both sides of this transaction should not consider the situation to be very stable. It's well-known that sometimes nations reclaim the ccTLD for their own purposes, with a resulting rug-pull to the registrants. Having your domain name suddenly change is bad for business, it goes without saying. And is this a steady, guaranteed income stream for the registrar? How long can they count on all accounts remaining current? Is AI a bucket of empty hype, or an enduring investment opportunity? Time will tell.
- josh-sematic 3y agoWhat are some historic examples of such rug-pulls?
- Ekaros 3y agoI wouldn't call it rug-pull. But .eu should be a real example of applying rules. That is when UK left the union domains hold by UK entities without presence in EU got revoked. And with ccTLD a country could do same thing, by fiat.
