Google details TPUv4 and its optically reconfigurable network
- londons_explore 3y agoI don't understand the slide with the mems arrays... The lasers and cameras in there are just for alignment right? Ie. No data is sent/received with them? Typical MEMS arrays have pixels that are strictly on or off. Are these arrays variable deflection allowing any beam to be redirected to any other? Are the beams arranged in a 2d grid, yet the mems arrays only allow 1d deflection, hence requiring two MEMS units to allow true any to any connections? The mems units look huge for just 136 pixels. Mems units in a home dlp projector would have 2 million mirrors on a far smaller die. Why couldn't they be used for a far more capable switch, and far cheaper since it is without custom silicon?
