Ask HN: Did you leave Reddit or did it creep back in?
- openair18 3y agoJust using old.reddit.com probably once a day which is a lot less than before. Still holding off from using their app.
- Prickle 3y agoI use reddit significantly less now. I'd say ~90% drop in usage considering that I used to access it every single day for multiple topics. I still go there for certain information, but now I really only look at it maybe once a week. And usually that is exclusive to acquiring game related information. I was a heavy user of the Sync app, so my mobile usage of reddit has gone from "A lot" to 0.
- happytiger 3y agoSame. Maybe every 3-4 weeks I'll check it out. Used to be an avid user.
- Prickle 3y agoI'm expecting myself to use it frequently during the Tokyo Game Show to discuss stuff. But that would heavily depend on the content of the Tokyo Game Show. So we will have to see. Last time, I was one of the main people translating the content into English. If there's a Kojima walk through of deathstranding2, that will be #1 on my todo from a gaming nerd standpoint.
- happytiger 3y agoThank you for your kindness! That’s just nice of you, irrespective of anything.
- delbronski 3y agoI barely use it now. Every now and then, out of habit maybe, I visit the website on my phone, scroll for 20 to 30 seconds and then my brain is like - “oh no, I don’t enjoy this anymore.” And I close it. I used it for years. I find it funny how I automatically do this without thinking.
- toomuchtodo 3y agoI use https://lemmit.online/ https://lemmit.online/ to consume Reddit content. About: https://lemmit.online/post/14692 https://lemmit.online/post/14692
- syndicatedjelly 3y agoI read it as gauge of what not to think
- yuppie_scum 3y agoContent wise it felt less and less relevant to me as time went by, even before the mod hissyfits. After the drama, there’s even less. So it’s my death scroll of last resort now.
- mikewarot 3y agoI deleted my account, and I avoid any URLs from that domain. Holding a grudge is a superpower
- gardenhedge 3y agoI don't use it anymore. Not necessarily because of the API drama but I've found that Reddit has turned into a place where the comments are mostly awful now. I put it down to the fact that most users are now on mobile instead of desktop.
- CM30 3y agoFor the most part I left Reddit. Sure, I occasionally view certain subs as a guest (maybe once a week for stuff like web development and tech), but I haven't used my account in months and I don't check posts on most subreddits anywhere near as often as I used to. Interestingly, I'd say it wasn't just caused by the API changes, but the realisation that the Reddit system is an unhealthy one that rewards addiction without giving much of value in return.
