Parent might be British - POTS is still widely available here, although not terribly popular. It's about as expensive to get a POTS line as three unlimited-calls 4G SIM cards, unless you combine calls with your broadband and can save money on the line rental.
- zabzonk 3y agoi use voip - it is cheap, sky, uk.
- seabass-labrax 3y agoThere is very little reason not to use VOIP - a friend of mine, a former telephone engineer and entrepreneur, even has his calls set up to be automatically routed to his mobile phone when he is out.
- kalleboo 3y agoIsn't POTS being shut down in the UK in 2 years from now? https://www.ebcgroup.co.uk/news-insights/all-of-your-questions-answered-uks-pstn-switch-off-in-2025 https://www.ebcgroup.co.uk/news-insights/all-of-your-questio...
- seabass-labrax 3y agoYikes, thanks for the warning. It's a great idea on a technical basis, but I really hope they don't make this an excuse to get rid of the last telephone boxes (which after this change should be free for local calls anyway, considering how cheap VoIP is).
