A historical record of foundational web development blog posts
- tedunangst 3y agoI previously missed https://www.filamentgroup.com/lab/introducing-the-new-responsive-designed-bostonglobecom https://www.filamentgroup.com/lab/introducing-the-new-respon... and now that I've read it I can't say I feel I missed out on a foundational text.
- nforgerit 3y agoCan't help but read "the whole misery of my life in one timeline".
- tivert 3y agoThis is kind of interesting to me, not so much for the content, but for the concept of a "historical [collection] of [influential] blog posts." There's a lot of important or influential works over the past couple of decades that were born online in blog or social media form, and it would probably make sense to compile them into historical archives, since those websites will die. The Internet Archive is nice, but it doesn't really scratch that itch, because it's so hard to search and browse. Also I'm afraid it's picked fights that it can't win, so it might not survive itself either (and it's far too large to mirror).
- dang 3y agoThe audience here is sympathetic to this topic, of course—but lists don't make great HN submissions. It would be better to pick the most interesting / least known thing on the list and submit that instead. https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=true&sort=byDate&type=comment&query=denominator%20lists%20by:dang https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=true&sor...

- xnx 3y ago> https://alistapart.com/article/journey/ https://alistapart.com/article/journey/ In 2001 CSS was not ready to be used in all the ways proponents were advocating. It feels like at least a decade was lost in <div> soup and CSS-for-everything (even tables) purgatory. It feels like just now in 2023 things like centering and layout are finally as easy as they were with tables.
