Driverless cars may already be safer than human drivers
- jqpabc123 3y agoDriverless cars may already be safer than human drivers Or maybe not. As is often the case; statistics alone can't really tell the full story. For example: Most driverless cars are programmed to simply hit the brakes when they can't comprehend the current situation. When they do this for no apparent reason that surrounding human drivers can comprehend or anticipate, the result is often a rear end collision. Which of course is ruled to be the human driver's fault. A rear end collision accounts for over 60% of self driving accidents. A side swipe accounts for another 20%. Both of these are generally blamed on surrounding human divers. But blame aside; self driving promoters are still left with a troubling statistic --- self driving cars are involved in over twice as many of these incidents as human drivers --- about 9.1 crashes per million miles driven versus 4.1 for humans.
