My (<200 person) remote-only company does executive, manager, and all-company offsites on regular cadences. As the CTO I go along with it but I really don’t think it helps. The only part I like is getting drunk and eating good meals. All of the breakout sessions and brainstorming could be done the same online (like we do 95% of the year).
The greatest part lately is that we can pay less and get more applications for open roles, because all the big companies are reverting back to in-office only and remote is the best benefit you can offer.

- friend_and_foe 3y agoI personally think it's a good idea to do something like this two to four times a year. If it were me, I'd arrange a come if you want meeting on a Friday every quarter in some fun town and then let the people have the weekend to have a good time and get to know each other if they want. It's great when you've been working with someone solving problems and then meeting them in person and finding you get along really good. Those interpersonal relationships aren't as important as the return to office people say they are, but they can make things run a little more smoothly and find chemistry.
