For Indigenous Peoples with Deep Ties to the Land, Climate Change Is Personal
- H8crilA 3y agoIt's personal for everyone who cannot eat because the land that feeds them is turning into a desert. Being indigenous has nothing to do with it. At some point someone will run out of water, and we will de-carbonize in about 20 minutes. Or however long it actually takes for the ICBMs to land. Before that we will have refugees being repelled with heavy military equipment (artillery / aviation / warships), and regular kinetic conflicts.
- myshpa 3y agoToday, the land is becoming desert not primarily because of climate change, but due to deforestation and overgrazing. In both our civilization and in those that came before us, the main reason for desertification has been animal agriculture. https://ourworldindata.org/drivers-of-deforestation https://ourworldindata.org/drivers-of-deforestation https://www.oxfordmartin.ox.ac.uk/publications/grazed-and-confused/ https://www.oxfordmartin.ox.ac.uk/publications/grazed-and-co... https://www.academia.edu/es/38627904/Blame_it_on_the_goats_Desertification_in_the_Near_East_during_the_Holocene https://www.academia.edu/es/38627904/Blame_it_on_the_goats_D...
