I still remember some dork on Twitter claiming that a source within the company told him that they had already trained GPT-5. Mind you, this was back in April I think. Kind of reluctant at this point to believe anyone who spreads rumors about the inner machinations of OpenAI.
- olddustytrail 3y agoYou mean a whole 3 months ago? So they still might be working on it. Does anyone else remember when decades were a long time ago rather than months? Or am I just very old...
- ShrigmaMale 3y agothis is actually plausible, though. GPT-4 finished training in August 2022 and was released March 2023. OpenAI took a lot of time to test/secure/fine-tune/whatever. if they're looking for a roughly yearly release cadence then they might have just about finished training.
- Bjorkbat 3y agoSo am I to believe some tech figure on Twitter with a large following who has an unnamed source? Or Sam Altman, who himself has said that no work whatsoever has been done nor will be done on GPT-5 in response to the rampant speculation this single tweet created?
