I think it's because Putin is not exactly a fan of them either. He's more on the state-suppression of citizen journalism side: a bit like the majoritarian anti-democracy mob in the USA.
Don't forget: Putin was the hand enforcer entrusted by the West while they were dismantling the old USSR.
- dundarious 3y agoOff topic, but even Navalny is very critical of the post-'91 regimes in a recent blog post: https://navalny.com/p/6652/ https://navalny.com/p/6652/. At the time, the US in particular was quite open about making sure those same "reformers" won elections, etc.
