GoFundMe Freezes Grayzone Funds
- frabbit 3y agoThe Grayzone is an indepedent media outlet highly critical of the neocon thrust of US foreign policy over the last 25 years. Their recent fundraiser to support 3 journalists to cover BRICS has had over US$90,000 frozen by GoFundMe with no explanation according to Max Blumenthal. This is a sinister repeat pattern of what GoFundMe did during the Canadian trucker convoy.
- frabbit 3y agoTo quote Jacobin/DSA journalist Marketic: Don't particularly care about your personal opinion about Grayzone - this is an outrageous attack on press freedom and should be condemned. The reason @gofundme is targeting it & similar outlets is because they know few people will object. They'll eventually expand who's a target.

- frabbit 3y agoI think it's because Putin is not exactly a fan of them either. He's more on the state-suppression of citizen journalism side: a bit like the majoritarian anti-democracy mob in the USA. Don't forget: Putin was the hand enforcer entrusted by the West while they were dismantling the old USSR.
- dundarious 3y agoOff topic, but even Navalny is very critical of the post-'91 regimes in a recent blog post: https://navalny.com/p/6652/ https://navalny.com/p/6652/. At the time, the US in particular was quite open about making sure those same "reformers" won elections, etc.
