It's not required to be employed though.
Go try to build a list of basic universal and theoretical concepts and I guarantee someone will disagree with you about something on it. Someone else can just as easily declare some knowledge that you omitted as basic or that some knowledge you included is not basic. Now that you've gotten something wrong, should we be questioning you because you missed something as basic?
