I agree with the authors conclusion but the argument here is underwhelming. IDEs are sloppy and slow and they make engineers do dumb things. "Why did you change all the whitespace in this file?" "I dunno my IDE did it." And almost every time I've had to retrain someone on git, it's because they were using an IDE and never understood how git works. The same issue pops up with debugging in situations where you only have gdb or ptrace and not your ide.
