Ask HN: Have you noticed X/Twitter is filling up with people asking questions?
- andrewstuart 3y agoLooks like the big trend is to ask questions to get your engagement numbers up so X will pay you money.
- mtmail 3y agoOpening the algorithm might have caused influencers understand better what drives enagagement https://tanay.substack.com/p/understanding-twitters-algorithm https://tanay.substack.com/p/understanding-twitters-algorith.... Apparently a reply to a retweet gets a weight of 27, a retweet only 1, a like 0.5 (higher number is better).
- 3cats-in-a-coat 3y agoIndeed. It’s all becoming a scam for engagement while they are being scammed they’ll get rich by ad views that way. The three most common tricks are: asking easy and stupid questions like “is anyone using var i for loops?” Saying something clearly wrong which you don’t really believe, so people reply angrily with corrections. Thread clickbait like “you won’t believe what happened” type of emotional statement with zero information so you start reading a boring thread hoping to figure wtf they’re talking about. And it’s always nothing. X is pure garbage now.
