So basically, there's no impact to productivity. Which is the bottom line.
The bigger issue is commercial real estate leases, which often have occupancy requirements imposed by the city to keep area's tax base healthy. See: downtown Portland, downtown San Francisco, etc.
The city needs local businesses to thrive, so the building owner needs the buildings occupied, so the company leasing it needs butts in seats.
- sokoloff 3y agoIf 70% of businesses reported a change in output, it seems weird to conclude “there’s no impact to productivity” as it concerns an individual business setting policy.
- axpy906 3y ago30 increase and 40 decrease which is a conflicting finding.
- johnnyanmac 3y agoI see it as evidence to do more granular research. What productivity increase/decrease so you see per company? In what industries? are these based on perceptions or hard metrics? what's the retention rate of companies, and do they correlate? It's a start, not something to conclude from.
