Good 'ol Bugzilla. The ugliest, clunkiest, most useful bug tracker ever made
- nine_zeros 3y agoStill 10x better than Jira
- thatwasunusual 3y ago0 x 10 is still 0, though. :)
- placesalt 3y agoAs a counterpoint, as Troy Lee Hudson said at a JPL lecture, 1 is infinitely more than zero[0]. [0] https://youtu.be/kqTR0mrIIEc?t=2676 https://youtu.be/kqTR0mrIIEc?t=2676 (The entire lecture and Q&A in that video is quite good).
- labster 3y agoI’ve used worse than Jira. I didn’t think it was possible, but you’d be surprised what can be sold as a ticketing system. Surprised and horrified.
- crabbone 3y agoYeah, there are other bug-trackers, and there's HP Quality Center... it's kind of like Malbolge or bug-trackers.
- DrBazza 3y agoI used Mingle once. Management loved it. That's all I have to say.
- folmar 3y agoMS Dynamics for a start.
- datadrivenangel 3y agoAzure Devops Makes me yearn for Jira.
- throwawaaarrgh 3y agoObviously you're kidding as Jira today is really fast and insanely useful. They're not really comparable though. Jira has much better UX and is designed for 50 different things. Bugzilla is mostly designed for one thing but is extensible, so if you spent 3 years coding you could maybe approach Jira's functionality in Bugzilla
- ksec 3y ago>Obviously you're kidding as Jira today is really fast and insanely useful. That is an interesting comment. Did Jira made some fundamental changes? Or was it really fast as in comparatively speaking to its old self when it was insanely slow?
- vitno 3y agoWe live in different worlds. The Jira I'm familiar with may be extremely powerful, but fast it certainly is not. I also rarely need that power which comes with non-trivial complexity.

- st3fan 3y ago> Jira has much better UX Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
- qwertox 3y agoI like Jira. The UX is good, allows for easy editing and customization. Then Jira Query Language enables good filtering and using it as a back end for custom front ends. In my eyes it's like a phpMyAdmin specialized for ticketing with an interface which is good enough to not be annoyed when dealing with it.
- throwawaaarrgh 3y agoWhat a great argument? Bugzilla is literally a cgi-bin Perl script where everything you do is a new page load. Jira has tons of interactive responsive menus and time saving conveniences. Every month it gets faster and easier to use in some way. You can be way more productive and get work done faster.
- Macha 3y agoFunnily enough, Mozilla is moving more and more to their (internal) JIRA, including basically all PM involvement. I sort of think this announcement comes from someone seeing the writing on the wall, maybe a possible future acceleration of this trend.
- fhd2 3y agoAll ticketing system are wrong, some are useful. I remember 12 years ago, when we were just starting out as a remote company in a world that looked like it had a single digit number of those. We heavily borrowed from Mozilla since most of their process was (maybe still is) out in the open, largely in Bugzilla. Quite impressed they resisted the pressure to move towards something more shiny now that other tools have mostly caught up.
- david_draco 3y agoBugzilla 3.0 in 2007 was a significant improvement in usability.
- labster 3y agoAre you honestly touting a 15 year old release or did you forget the /s?
