One of the most annoying things I discovered when I moved to Thailand with my then-gf/now-wife, is that it's "normal" here to put the screen on the inside of the window (or door)... so to open or close the window (or door) you have to open the screen... and let all the bugs in. Maybe this is normal in other places too? In Australia it's the opposite, and the screens are often relatively fixed in place (on windows) in my experience.
