The airline industry safety people are one of the groups of people I respect the most. The do stuff nobody else does. In fact people just laugh if you suggest them. A single incident, near miss, or even discovery of something likely to be a problem in the future is enough to prompt changes. Something that affects 1 in 10k flights is still something they try to fix. Meanwhile everyone else seems.to actively want MORE danger in the world. Way too often time regulations are written in blood because nobody tries to fix stuff till long after people are already dying. They don't even care about their own safety. I think it's just a basic human instinct to be biased towards action and hate anything that gets in the way of action. For a long time doctors used all kinds of stuff without even really checking if it works, and even with science, there are STILL medical errors and even ineffective treatments fully accepted.
