The cynic in me can't see this in any way other than some kind of malicious compliance from Apple - the monkey's paw clutching in the background.
It's been 20 years since Casey Neistat's "iPod's Dirty Secret" [1]. If they've fought against RtR for so long, surely they won't give up so easily?
