How many of these reports have to come out before the State reacts appropriately?
- phone8675309 3y agoWhat would you have the state do?
- ibejoeb 3y agoThe state, using its various powers such as monopoly on use of force, could: 1. Intervene and prevent the loss 2. Prosecute perpetrators of theft as a deterrent
- phone8675309 3y agoWhy do you think they aren't doing 1 and/or 2 currently?

- phone8675309 3y agoClearly they arrested and intend to prosecute him or he wouldn't have been in jail after having been arrested and charged.
- PhasmaFelis 3y ago> Intervene and prevent the loss You think the government should be responsible for placing security guards in private businesses? Is that where you want your tax money to go?
- ibejoeb 3y agoIn California, it is generally unlawful to defend property. So, like I said, either the state needs to do it for me with its sovereign right to use of force, or it needs to step aside. I left California, so I really don't care.
- phone8675309 3y agoHow much force do you think the state should be allowed to use to stop shoplifting?
- nate_meurer 3y agoPolice departments have well defined use-of-force policies for property crimes including theft and vandalism. This is theft. Pretty simple. If a suspect flees, resists, or gets violent, then different use-of-force policies will naturally apply.
- joemazerino 3y agoThe State's job is to enforce laws. I think it would be wise to do so. You?
- phone8675309 3y agoOf course the state should enforce the laws - if you look at the New York case someone posted in this subthread they're often already enforcing the laws. I'm not suggesting that they shouldn't. As I asked another person in this subthread - what amount of force should the police be allowed to use against shoplifters?
