Intel seems to think Wi-Fi 7 is too cool for old-school Windows 10
- zamadatix 3y agoRegarding the Intel thing: I'm surprised to hear Intel doesn't plan on it. I wonder what the differences in the network stack are between the versions that they found it worthwhile to not support 10 as well, regardless of how many users will be able to use it for how long. I know there were some changes with cellular network driver interfaces but I don't recall if there was anything big on the WLAN side. I guess one possibility is maybe they didn't want to maintain a 32 bit driver at all going forward so they decided to just not release anything for 10 completely for clarity since the support window is so short anyways. Regarding the reporting: If they are going to bother to talk about the details of LTSC they might as well do it accurately. 21H2 end of mainstream support is 2027, not 2026. Also the wording of the 10 year reduction makes it sound like they promised a 21H2 release with 10 years of support then dropped it to 5 when what actually happened is they announced they would still do another LTSC release but this next one wouldn't have 10 years of support for most versions. Of course they mention security updates instead so the 1809 LTSC release with security updates until 2029 is actually the longer running pick anyways. The note these are difficult to obtain as a normal buyer is accurate but at that point we're back to 21H2 having security updates until 2032 via IoT Enterprise (not to be confused with Windows IoT which was the continuation of the Embedded line). It's not that I even like or dislike the support lifecycles it's just if you're going to bring it up in your news article it should be both accurate and fair not a sloppy hot take to rile up readers. /rant
