Barbara: Live coding languages for quilters
- sleepybrett 3y agoWould be cool if you could export actual sewing/cutting patterns, otherwise it's just a grammer for making square pictures.
- dylan604 3y agocould be dismissed as just square pictures. they could also be tiles. recently there was a post on a decent little tiling program where the tiles created from TFA could be interesting to play with in the other link. (I suck at search here, otherwise, I'd post a link back to it)
- aappleby 3y agoMisread as "for quitters", imagined a language that gave you encouraging messages for each syntax error. "I'm sorry but 'printhrglf' is not a function. You're doing so well though, keep trying!"
- dylan604 3y agooh gawd, if i were using a language that did that, i'd quit immediately. i'm shocked it hasn't been built already though with all of the stereotypes that this seems perfectly suited for

- wly_cdgr 3y agoCame here to make a joke about this, but you already made a better one, so never mind.
- notpeter 3y agoSadly their Heroku dyno has fallen over. It's open source and works locally though. Old Demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLaMCr8g0n4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLaMCr8g0n4 Github: https://github.com/kitzeller/barbara https://github.com/kitzeller/barbara

- kubectl_h 3y agoI recently picked up a cheap sewing machine to attempt to make some covers for a foam mattress I cut up to put in the back of a truck for camping. Sewing is super interesting and a little intimidating to get started with, but once you get the machine setup and start making some basic things it's really rewarding. I'm still very new to the world but I find myself inspecting every sewn thing I pick up -- backpacks, bathroom travel bags, pillowcases, clothing, etc. It re-orients your relationship to the construction of so many products that you take for granted. Everything that is sewn is up for repair or upgrades. It's a really cool hobby and if you have a tinkerers or DIY streak to you I highly suggest trying it out. Check out the MYOG reddit to get inspiration.
- shaunxcode 3y agoStand back I’m about to say something nice about Perl. This reminds me of the book “higher order Perl” which has quilting patterns on the cover: https://hop.perl.plover.com/cover.html https://hop.perl.plover.com/cover.html
