Gone Home Has Left an Enduring, If Divisive, Legacy
- jfengel 3y agoI'm not much of a gamer, but I have been enjoying Oxenfree and its successors. It is similarly a "ludonarrative" (I like the term) and a touch of the horror genre. I don't enjoy horror, but in both these games the touch is so light that it's hard to take seriously. It comes off as "uncanny" rather than "unpleasant". I find it remarkable that "walking simulators" work at all, when they could just be written as novels or films. But the elements of gameplay make it more than that, even though I'm aware that the game is largely on rails. It feels more like "the evolution of books" rather than "a degradation of games".
