    I was confused by the tone, this helps explain it. It comes off as a relic from another age, other people doing the equivalent of investigative journalism nowadays don’t typically use phrases like “our investigation revealed.” It really breaks the fourth wall.

    While I see where you're coming from, they may have split off specifically because they don't like the way Vice (and thus Motherboard) has gone.
