All I got from that article is that narcissism just means an obsession with yourself. The person may be grandiose or neurotic. They may love themselves or hate themselves. So this isn't really a specific condition is it? It's more like a symptom that can appear for many different underlying reasons. Asking "what it is" seems to be the wrong question to me.
