I tested my backups about 6 months ago when I set up zrepl. When I mentioned it was scary until I could decrypt the data, that wasn't the whole story, actually: initially I restored the wrong wrapper key and it failed to load! It's also scary in general to go from 2 copies to only 1 copy of data. A friend and I have been planning to trade replicas but haven't set it up yet. There's definitely still room for improvement in my setup.
