The problem with Wirecutter (eventually - years ago I used it fairly regularly) was that the reviews could not compete with Reddit/Youtube/etc. It worked if I just wanted something generic and half decent, and didn't care too much about the price, but twenty minutes of searching through comment sections usually yielded better and more specific results. This makes sense - it would be impossibly expensive to pay a team of professional writers and editors to test products in the number and depth of "crowd-sourced" reviews. Wirecutter provided trust and convenience but, for me, not enough to overcome that fundamental disadvantage.
