There is so much archaeological and paleontologic work that remains to be done in India. All the research and digs are still in a very nascent stage and I’m excited for the day when the country has more resources to dedicate to these things just like the last 5-10 years in China, which have uncovered fantastic things.
- qart 3y agoAs far as I know, the Deccan Traps played a major role in the previous mass extinction. Despite Wikipedia's exaggerated claims of it being "famous for the beds of fossils", Indian mythology, unlike Chinese and European mythologies, does not feature dragons. Chinese and European mythologies feature dragons probably because their imagination was seeded by massive dinosaur fossils they found every now and then. The only fossils that seem to have contributed to Indian mythology are the "Shaligram" (ammonites). I would be thrilled if they discover more fossils in India. But I don't have high hopes that they'll discover anywhere near as many as Europeans and Chinese.
- guideamigo_com 3y agoThey probably won't. And the simple reason might be that India has been continuously inhabited for 10,000+ years. So, preservation becomes less probable. Even the tools before and after the Toba explosion have found to be unchanged.
- soligern 3y agoBefore the Toba explosion India was not populated by Homo sapiens. The Levallois technique was found post Toba so the tools are definitely not the same.
