Amid US’s shameful maternal death rate, survey finds widespread mistreatment
- chiefalchemist 3y ago> The current survey study does not draw a direct line from mistreatment and discrimination to deaths and morbidity. But, CDC officials suggest it clearly plays a role, noting that higher scores for the quality of maternity care are associated with lower risks of pregnancy complications. Yes, but that conclusion is still correlation, at least as mentioned here. Also, from the CDC report https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/72/wr/mm7235e1.htm https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/72/wr/mm7235e1.htm ". The option to complete the PN View Moms survey online was shared with 7,607 opt-in panel members¶; 2,407 (32%) mothers responded." That is, the mom's were self-selected and their data self-reported. A double-whammy of red flags. Don't get me wrong, the USA's maternal death rate, as well as the infant mortality rate are godawful, embarrassing, etc. but this type of "analysis" (cough cough) is hardly a step in the right direction. Coming from the CDC? How??
