- brutus1213 3y agoWell .. if you hire people solely based on leetcode style interviews, this is what you get. Or maybe this is the fate of the industry gorilla? The other company that falls in this relaxed camp is Microsoft. I am sure there are others.
- jfrbfbreudh 3y agoWhat does leetcode style interview performance have to do with whether someone is going to be conscientious or not?
- ttymck 3y agoWhat does this have to do with conscientiousness?
- jfrbfbreudh 3y agoadjective 1. (of a person) wishing to do what is right, especially to do one's work or duty well and thoroughly. "a conscientious and hardworking clerk"
- VirusNewbie 3y agoG definitely doesn't only hire on LC style interviews. It's just a component of it. I also don't think most people are slacking at G. I'd assume most people put in 40 hours a week, many 45 or more, and some maybe in the 30. This is just a bad manager. Likely this person would have been PIPed after the next review cycle. G is slow to get rid of bad people, but unless you have a a bad manager, it'll happen if you're only doing one thing a week.
- jasonladuke0311 3y agoLmao. This guy’s gonna get got. Why do people feel the compulsion to tell stories like this? If it’s true, he’s revealed enough info to make ID’ing him fairly trivial. > And if they decide to punish him by letting him go, Devon says he’s still resting easy because they’ll give him a generous severance package. Not if you’re fired for cause, homie.
- omoikane 3y agoLooks like the same story as this one: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=37227902 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=37227902 - "Google engineer earns $150K works 1 hr/day, spends rest of time on his startup"
- theonething 3y ago> $150,000 a year, according to his offer letter Seems low for Google unless that doesn't include RSUs etc.
- holtkam2 3y agoLemme guess he’s working on a startup that allows managers to more accurately track the way remote workers use their time
- jerojero 3y agoSure. If the workplace allows for it then that's how it is, though I think it's a bad idea to go out and talk about it. I think this person feels pretty proud about his slacking off, which I'm not saying it isn't an accomplishment... but you're better off keeping it a secret.
