Elon Musk Plans to Remove Headlines from News Article Links on Twitter/X
- throwaway154 3y agoWhen running through what meta data to give in the header of a page, I found the 'twitter' stuff... kinda presumptuous(?)... that Twitter would request it's own special meta data. But then when it was acquired by Musk I remembered I'd downloaded all their emojis, a 'just in case he pulls the plug on other stuff' thought-moment. And now, I'm reverse-face. The twitter-card stuff is used not only by Twitter. It's a little footnote ever-bearing the rebranded name that others will find useful. So I'll continue to provide it in headers, for the evolution of Twitter that's come and will come further.
- mdwalters 3y agoHas he even talked to the team about any of the features he introduced?
- 3cats-in-a-coat 3y agoThe lifecycle of his ideas typically is: it occurs to him past midnight, he tweets it like it’s already done, backlash from everyone, his team/ceo steps in with explanations how this was all planned years ahead of time and is the most 5D chess ever to unleash the everything app potential for all of us, then nothing happens, or something half assed is implemented for a few days and then often backpedalled.
- mgiannopoulos 3y agoRelated > French press publishers are accusing Elon Musk of using new features on X, formerly known as Twitter, to avoid paying for copyright-protected content. X is expected to remove headlines and text from news stories shared on the platform, according to Fortune. Musk confirmed the move and claimed the reason behind it was “aesthetics.” In France, however, representatives for press publishers see it as a "coarse attempt to evade neighboring rights." https://www.politico.eu/article/elon-musk-accused-of-trying-to-dodge-copyright-rules/ https://www.politico.eu/article/elon-musk-accused-of-trying-...
- 3cats-in-a-coat 3y agoIn this particular case, Agence-France Presse played a stupid game and won a stupid award. Asking for money so people can link to you using metadata you willingly provide for social media integration is idiotic.
