You got plenty of downvotes, I think it was the use of words and not the actual message/meaning. I wholeheartedly agree with you. At SOME point he could have gotten a better paying job, or get a promotion, etc. Perhaps the circumstances were such that this would be one of the very specific gigs (working hours, convenient shifts, distance from home, etc.) But still it also baffled me why he was in the same job, restaurant, company for 20 years in today's world.
