It’s an arms race. The utopian hyper-civilized ethics are replaced when your adversary are doing everything possible to turn you into a product. Tracking, fingerprinting, creating shadow profiles for you, etc etc, etc without any meaningful consent. If the adversaries followed idealized ethics, they would respect DNT header, for one. That said, actively avoiding those actors who are unethical is commendable. It’s just very difficult to do in practice, since basic communication with eg neighbors, parents, friends are mainly through these channels.
