"glitch" as if the destruction of twitter wasn't the plan all along.
Look at where the money came from, countries where twitter was used by dissidents to coordinate resistance against "democratic" quasi-dictatorships, where people used their voices to discuss and assemble their voting power.
A few billion dollars to get rid of that and also buy a lightning rod to take all the blame (elon) for you is chump change to maintain the status quo for decades.
And it's not like Elon is blameless either. In 2016 he was a mere puppy of a billionaire, with barely $11,000,000,000 to his name, and now 7 years later he has $220 billion. A 20x multiplier in 7 years. Is there anything or anyone that has gotten that much richer in that time frame in human history?
So what now? Where does everyone go now that the bullies have papered the town square with worthless money and then burned it to the ground? Do they all fracture and splinter? Do they vanish into the wind? Do they go back to the way things were before they had a chance to get better?
I don't know. Just let this serve as a reminder of what it costs to sell your soul.
Elon has so much money, the only thing he can't buy is peace. And the former stockholders of twitter wouldn't have been able to sell out if twitter hadn't sold out to go public in the first place.
Whatever actually becomes the new thing should keep this in mind. It should be like the internet archive, non-profit, user supported, maybe with a storefront or something, possibly federated to prevent any one person or group destroying it the way Myspace and Twitter were.
- standardUser 3y agoBased solely on his actions so far, it certainly looks like Musk is trying to destroy Twitter. I don't know about his motivations, but you're right that the greatest opponents of Twitter are authoritarian regimes and I'm sure they're cheering on it's demise.

His net worth went up because the Tesla stock went 10x, not because of dark money. You're making it sound like he was a struggling billionaire who was bailed out by the Saudis. This is a pretty unhinged theory.
