Fun essay. I agree that guns remove the escapist aspect, but not that it foretells an impending industrial revolution. The world simply won’t have coal nor petroleum; and schools of magic are competing with and dwarfing chemistry and science, and that’s enough to kill any momentum on industry. It’s a world where industry can only be at a small scale.
