If we go back to the 80s, the PCs of that time cannot handle the computing needs of a large website. However, today nearly all datacenters are run using PC hardware. In other words the business of big servers got commoditized in the early 2000s. In the same way, the big network backbone business will be commoditized at some point in time. The restrictions such as this, will only accelerate the commoditization.
