People who live there != people who own property
People who own property want to be seen to be pro more homelessness but if they want higher asset prices and higher rents then they need to fight for non solutions to homelessness.
- isykt 3y agoIt doesn’t really matter if the people who live there own property, the US doesn’t require property ownership to vote.
- jeffbee 3y agoBut it does require residency to vote. Those forced to leave a place due to lack of housing are no longer able to vote, which naturally concentrates the local franchise into the hands of those with higher means.
- pydry 3y agoIt helps if you stop modeling the US a democracy where, say, 65% want single payer healthcare and therefore they get it and start modeling it as an oligarchy where, unless the underclasses revolt, people with money and property set policy.
- HDThoreaun 3y agoAbsolutely and completely wrong. Home owners vote far more and every politician knows it. They're the ones deciding local elections.
