I've found digital works to often display more creativity than non-digital ones. My pet theory is that digital tools remove so many constraints over traditional mediums: infinite undo, no color mixing, a full chromatic palette, "liquify", layers, etc. that artists have more room to experiment.
Finding a balance between tradition and novelty is perhaps the most comfortable position: tradition brings experience accumulated over many lifetimes, it's foolish to reject it. But it's equally unwise to systematically reject novelty either.
