While I am annoyed by loud motorcycles, I understand and totally agree with riders about being loud so cars are aware. Drivers are shockingly unaware of their surroundings. It's worse with drivers of larger trucks and SUVs. Drivers don't address their blind spots, they don't pay attention, they don't signal, they don't look. I've fortunately never seen a motorcyclist hit by a car, but I've seen a lot of close calls, and not one of them has been saved because the driver suddenly noticed the bike. I'm sure there are guys who want to be loud, just like the kids who put the noisy mufflers on their cars. For most bikers I don't think they see a better alternative.
