Neuroscientists successfully test theory that forgetting is a form of learning

- kelseyfrog 3y agoI've been learning a lot lately.
- omidHeravi 3y agoBut forgetting just as fast ;)
- distract8901 3y agoI have severe ADHD, the sheer volume of things I've forgotten must make me one of the smartest people alive
- Llamamoe 3y agoI have a pet theory that the sheer range of information ADHD people expose themselves to is precisely why they're often so versatile cognitively - even if the memories don't stay in "memory", the brain still learns from having processed them.
- distract8901 3y agoThat feels right. I don't really have direct recall for everything I learn, but it almost always stays lurking in my brain until I run into a specifc problem requiring that information
- yummypaint 3y agoFor me the most impressive thing is that a memory can be localized to a particular group of brain cells, and then forcibly recalled through external stimulation. Makes me wonder about the future of optogenetic methods for human neural interfaces and the potential for abuse.
- hilbert42 3y agoThen I reckon the amount of stuff I've forgotten would put me in the Einstein class. Trouble is I'm closer to the other end of the spectrum. So what gives?
