The worst example I can remember was in the movie The day after tomorrow, where cold air from the statosphere dropped down to ground level and instantly freeze dried people.
Now, granted the stratosphere is cold. But it’s also at very low pressure, and what happens to air when you compress it, say by moving it from the stratosphere to the ground? That’s right, it heats up. If you were to bring a packet of air down from the stratosphere, letting it heat adiabatically as it compresses to one atmosphere, I’d expect it to be hot enough to burn people rather than freezing them.
I rather enjoyed seeing Los Angeles being torn to pieces by multiple simultaneous super-tornadoes, though.
