It's the wealth gap, stagnate wages, housing shortage, collapse of family unit building. Why bother dealing with the stress of work when it doesn't pay enough to live? Burned out on consumerism, no family to support and provide for...or even if you do achieve that, it takes two full careers to pay for it. It's really just a collapse in incentives. People have to work to survive, and they survive to work. At some point, it's not worth it anymore.
