What Do a King, a Pope, and the Inuit Have in Common?
- NoZebra120vClip 3y agoWhile it's nice to hear aggregate statistics for the Church, it's important to remember just how loosely associated the whole Church is. Of course you have a unified structure with uniform law and chain of command. But every diocese, every ordinary, has a lot, a lot of autonomous power, and financially especially so. It's not like the Holy Father, or a functionary in Rome, could sell off land out here, or even tell us what to do with it. Religious orders, even more so. There are a lot of protections for their governance and finances. And in these days of abuse lawsuits, every parish has independently incorporated to shield them from raiders of the lost diocese. So while it's true that the Church owns a lot of nice things, you kight compare them to "farmers" owning a lot, rather than a monolithic corporation. v. interesting to compare their unqualified assertions about the Church vs. British Crown holdings.
