What's the difference between a fanless laptop and a Linux OS tablet? A keyboard on hinges or something?

Like a Microsoft Surface. Can't type in lap, hard to use in tight spaces like planes or busy coffee shops. I have a couple of Pixel Slates with Brydge keyboards that have actual good hinges, that's much closer to a laptop. Still more top-heavy than laptops.
