Brits are less productive because it is too hard to build stuff
- ggm 3y agoSomebody is going to have to explain to me how a decline in Britain's PISA rankings makes it hard to find skilled trades to make houses. The article seems a bit of a hodgepodge to me. Reductively, British capital would rather invest in IPR or fintech, (both of which don't help build houses outside London) or overseas, than in primary industry and production of goods and houses domestically, and would rather let underfunded state enterprise balls up infrastructure builds on health and rail. It's about money. It's not about STEM because Britain has had skilled migration filling the STEM shortage for decades, right up until they made residency even for married to British partner skilled labour insanely expensive because of little englander racism. Why can't Britain build things? Because Britain votes for Nigel Farage and the Tory party, and because Labour was moribund after Blair's party-like-its-1999 wore off. Europe can build things. Britain can't even build a battery factory. Or it's nuclear power stations, and HS2 is being cut back.
