My gut feeling is that the built in GC will either be complex and difficult to implement, each garbage collected language will use the new facilities in incompatible ways or languages will still end up rolling their own gc for some reason. However, I hope I'll be proved wrong and the new gc facilities will be a great success.

My gut feeling is that it will just wrap everything inside of JS objects, and then reuse the JS GC. But then performance would be nearly identical to writing the same things in JS.

  That is a possiblity, but hopefully that isn't what happens either.
