- eesmith 3y agoNot that meteor magnets exist, but https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_impact_craters_on_Earth#Craters_by_continent https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_impact_craters_on_Eart... says there are more known impact craters in Europe than Australia.
- lostlogin 3y agoWe’re a terrible choice for avoiding natural disasters. There is a 75% chance of the Alpine Fault between The Pacific Plate and the Indo-Australian Plate rupturing in the next 50 years and they tend to be earthquakes of magnitude 8+. On average it ruptures every 291 years (+/- 23), and the last one was in 1717. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpine_Fault https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpine_Fault
- shirro 3y agoNew Zealand like Japan, Indonesia and other places around the pacific ring of fire is very geologically active. I have only barely felt one earthquake living in Australia in half a century and it was almost imperceptible. I expect the low geological activity is one of the reasons evidence of meteor impacts is well preserved in Australia.
- DonHopkins 3y agoThe theory is that visitor centers attract meteors, but what is not understood is why the meteors never actually hit them directly, and why so many meteors land in craters. https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/fgztcd/look_how_close_the_meteor_came_to_taking_out_the/ https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/fgztcd/look_how_clos...
