My plastic consumption weighs on me, too, as does our collective consumption. Especially our collective consumption; I can only do so much, and feel ~powerless to change our habits. Focusing on individual responsibility feels like a distraction when regulation is the way to effect widespread change. I don't really care that world leaders use private jets; the vast majority of us don't need that, but they arguably do, since in-person communication can be so effective, especially at high levels. I care about shifting culture so that we feel well-off enough, cared for enough, basic needs met well enough, to not resort to "retail therapy" and the like.
I would reserve plastics for medical use and other "mission critical" uses, not for yard ornaments at the other end of the spectrum. It's a tough problem and I'm wary of oversimplifying the answers, and that uncertainty leads to stress, whereas someone who thinks they have all the answers might mostly be stressed by their insistent advice not being universally accepted.
